01: What protection do coveralls provide?

It is important to note that the difference between an ordinary white coverall & a protective coverall so that will be correctly protected for the required job.

Only Coveralls that are graded as category III are manufactured to provide protection against potentially fatal hazardous harmful substances. If a coverall is simply graded 1 or 2, the coverall is not protective and can only suitable for simple non-hazardous materials.

All coveralls at Protective Masks Direct LTD are manufactured to the highest protective category III

level only kat-3 & will protect against dangerous hazards such as asbestos fibres, solvents & biological hazards to prevent serious harm to health.

02: What are Coveralls Made from?

Simple white basic coveralls do not protect against hazardous materials & will likely be made of polypropylene. SMS material is a trilaminate construction providing high tensile strength & protection against fluid & particulates. Microporous laminated coveralls will provide a superior level of protection with enhanced tensile strength, barrier protection & breathability.

03: What are the different coverall seams & when are they used?

There are a number of different seam techniques that are used in the manufacture of protective coveralls depending on the level of protection the coverall provides.

Serged Seam – Widely used for on limited use clothing for dry particulate protection but not generally used when chemical protection is required.

Heat Sealed Seam – This is a liquid-proof seam used in Level A & B Chemical protective suit

Sewn & Bound Seam – Increased durability against chemicals & particulates

Ultrasonic welded seam – Heavy duty chemical suites.

04: What protection do Category III Type 5/6 Coveralls provide?

Category III coveralls are manufactured to protect against dangerous hazards. Type 5 coveralls Safety Standard: ENISO 13982-1:2004+A1:2010 provides full-body protection from airborne particles. Type 6 Safety Standard: EN 13034:2005+A1:2009 provides full-body protection against limited splash. If the suffix (B) is present ie 5B or 6B this would also signify EN 14126 protection against biological hazards.

05: What protection is needed for Biological hazards?

The protective suits will be Cat III & will also include either the suffix (B) to signify EN 14126 biological protection or will have the EN 14126 safety symbol for protection against hazardous microorganisms.

06: What Coveralls are required for asbestos protection?

Only protective coveralls that are graded Cat III Type 5/6 offer sufficient protection when dealing with asbestos. These are available as either SMS coveralls (Blue SMS Coveralls (SKU 63 / White SMS Coveralls SKU 72) as well as microporous Cat III Type 5/6 coveralls which offer a higher level of tensile strength & improved breathability (SKU 14).

07: Do Protective Suits have an expiry date when production may be reduced?

It is recommended that the coverall is used within 5 years from the date of production on the label.

08: Can Protective Coveralls be washed & reused?

“Protective Coveralls” are termed limited use PPE and have gone through rigid tests to ensure that they provide the highest level of protection is provided against fatal hazards & as such should not be washed otherwise protection would potentially be reduced.
